Usually when you hear the voice of Adam Pohl it is calling a Bowie Baysox Baseball game on 1430-WNAV in Annapolis or a Mount St. Mary's Basketball game on 930-AM WFMD in Frederick. But Pohl has made his career not just in broadcasting games but also in marketing in minor league baseball.
Hailing from Arlington, VA, Pohl went to UNC-Chapel Hill and afterwards began his career broadcasting and working in baseball. He had stops in Asheboro, NC (2001-02), Burlington, NC (2003-04), Salem, VA (2005-06) and Frederick, MD (2006-13). There with the Keys, Pohl rose to being the Assistant General Manager and in charge of all promotions and marketing for the club. In his 3-year tenure running the marketing department, the Keys in-park attendance increased by 21-percent. He came to Bowie to work for the Double-A Baysox in January of 2014 and is ready to embark on his fifth season with the team as Director of Broadcasting.
Today's chat will focus not on the parameters of marketing within sports but more so on setting an overall advertising budget and then how to approach enforcing it. What are the things that can lead to marketing success? In what ways are the current climate taking marketing and advertising? And how does being smack in the middle of two major cities create challenges for marketing local here in our area?
